I've been curious lately. Do you people vote for yourselves when you're in a poll or not?
Not that I'm saying it's bad or not, I'm just curious about how many of you actually do.
Personally, no, I usually never vote in a poll involving myself for two reasons:
1. I don't like to be biased on myself 2. I don't want to risk my chances of winning by voting for others
So yeah, I'm just curious as to what your stances are on voting for yourself on a poll.

If it's Song of the Week, I will only vote for myself if I think I'm good enough to be in it. So yes, I do vote for myself, but not every time I'm in it.
But I don't think there's any other polls of which I could vote for myself...

I generally vote for myself when I participate in competitions when I feel that I actually deserve a vote.

I don't vote for myself (I haz bias) but neither do I vote for the best pieces, [trail slightly off topic] I vote for the pieces which I think deserve more votes because in a crazy theory I made up in my head if the best few people are voted for all the time they'll have a tonne of votes while the next best (well 4th in an SotW example) will have none, and sometimes I hate when someone is underappreciated, which on second thought is actually the main reason I do it (because of course everyone has a different opinion but some people who are missed out aren't opinionated at all imho lawl [which is why I think video links should be posted, or maybeh even a playlist of all the entries, 'cause some people be lazy and forgetful!])
I accidentally the polls, is this bad?
[/trail slightly off topic]
So I don't vote for myself.

I refuse to vote for myself. Why? I think it's immoral and cheating, especially in the situation of a tie. Now there's no way of preventing it, obviously, but I dislike it when people do it.

I vote for myself on these polls here because I know it won't be decided by one vote most of the times. I think I deserve the vote because I am the only one who actually knows how much effort I put into whatever I made.
But really, I just like to see votes for my name.
edit// but I never vote on the contests on YT

"Immoral", and "cheating"? Dude, SotW is for fun. There isn't a huge ass cash prize or something, the biggest thing you get is some internet pride. Which isn't much. There's NO FRICKIN MORALITY INVOLVED. The only time I didn't vote for myself was with that one tiebreaker I had with Ninja. And I agree with Kace.

First off, stop talking about SotW as if I don't run the polls. I know it's for fun. I hate it when people take it that seriously. But I have my own morals. I feel as if I cheated when I vote for myself. I also feel like it cheats someone else out of a more deserving vote (for example, you with Koopa Bros. Battle, which IMO was better than Trial). Likewise, when other people vote for themselves, I feel like they're shafting other people. I should probably say these things beforehand

I had an interesting conversation with LG about this X-P I don't vote for myself for the same reasons Ninja mentioned. I feel like I would be doing an injustice voting for mysef and I feel like it would be unfair for me to win a close poll due to a simple "gimme" vote provided by me. Likewise, I feel like if someone else votes for themself it can potentially prevent a more deserving song from getting more votes. I personally never mind if I win or lose SOTW anyway, but this is still a topic worth mentioning in my opinion. In case LG is reading this, during our conversation my main point left my mind for some reason and I unknowingly settled on a different point I wasn't meaning to defend. I realized later what I wanted to say to begin with, and here it is: I thought everyone here happened to feel the same way I did about this topic I simply assumed everyone made it a point to vote for songs other than theirs and voting for yourself was frowned upon (isn't this a part of why RC was disliked?) So it's interesting to me to learn that this isn't the case. However, I do very much understand the reasons why people may vote for themselves

I do believe that there is morality involved.
It's still a vote, despite the fact that there is no real prize except a feeling of accomplishment. People in this world are competitive, and that alone means in any contest morality can be an issue.
Example: At my school, we are having a school-wide Ping Pong Mixed Doubles tournament that goes on 3 days a week at lunch just for fun (and the fact that we need some excitement since there's no varsity football this year), but there are many teams out there that just joined to have fun, but then there are the "hardcore" ones who've played before, and they will take the rules and bend them or fail to add a detail here or there for the sake of winning that extra point.
Now I'm not saying that anyone on here lacks morals, none by far. But my point was that the assertion of a lack of morals in a contest despite the fun of it is just not true.

I don't think there is a morality involved. As a contributor to the polls, you get to have a subjective viewpoint on things, and vote for whatever you want to vote for. I don't think it's possible to be "free of bias", especially in music. Music is extremely subjective. Just because you think you deserve the highest honor doesn't mean that anyone thinks that way.
...I can't seem to say what I really want to say because I can't think of how I want to word it, and whether it'll get the point across. ARGH >_<

I would say yes and no to this, though a bit more towards the no.
I'm most likely going to vote for other people, especially if they did a much better, or a slightly worse, job than I did. I'm not just going to vote for myself just to get a better score if others deserve it more, or sometimes if they deserve it less.
If, however, it's clearly obvious I did a much better job compared to most of the others competing, I would rather not lose to a person, or people, that did a half-assed job. This hasn't happened yet, especially not in Mario Paint contests, but I'm probably not going to vote for a terrible job if I truly believe I deserve it a lot more.
To sum it up, if there are several competitors that are at least close to my skill level or higher, I'm most likely not voting for myself. If they are absolutely terrible compared to me (which is not likely), I may vote for myself, though I may still vote for another instead.

I'll vote for myself if I think I deserve a vote (the last time I did that was when Tornado Man was in SotW, but before that I hadn't done so since Fake Man). Other than that, I don't vote for myself.

I don't like voting. To me, it is just a way to see who is better than someone else, a way to solve an argument that no one wins, or a way to "fix" collected data so you always win.
It sickens me to hear that people think voting is a good thing.

so then what method would you suggest? Democracy seems to be working quite well in this day and age.
