IMHO? Democracy is the ONLY exception. I think that if there is going to be any voting around here, it should only be done by people NOT INVOLVED IN THE POLLS. No self voting, no voting if you are in the mentioned contest, and no voting if you are the one who set up the poll.
To me, that would be the only fair way.
Peace, love and happiness. THAT'S MY WAY OF LIFE.

I used to vote for myself until I won Song Of The Week: February because of it. Yes, yes, shame on me. Especially since now I don't feel like I deserved it.
I've never voted for myself since.

To me, it is a more honest and a more exciting experience if you won by means of a complete stranger rather than a close friend. It sort of proves that you have fans that you don't even know about that enjoy the things you make.

Well, seeing how tight-knit this community is, there's no way to stop that.
And it sickens you to hear that voting is a good thing? Oh, yeah, maybe we should flip a coin, base it on luck instead of general opinion, hm?

I'm just a little depressed right now and when I blow steam, it cheers me up.

Why are you paying attention to what I'm saying anyway? Same reason you're paying attention to him.

You know what? I'm going to take myself out of the conversation. Like I said before, I was just blowing off steam to help me feel better. Although I am glad that some people sort of understood what I was talking about, I think it would be better if it were like my posts in this thread never happened. Thanks for being there during my little depressionary slump, I feel much better now. You guys are great. *tears of joy*

This, except replace February with March, and Song of the Week with Song of the Month Tiebraker. I voted for myself thinking I wouldn't any votes, and wanted to see at least one vote for myself. However, that vote ended up getting me the undeserved win over Lihyahm's song.

Also, I don't vote in Tiebreakers I'm involved in, just because I believe it'll sort itself out without my vote. However, If I don't vote for myself in SOTM and SOTW (when I think I deserve it), that's one more vote for the people I voted for and zero more votes for me, and that reduces my chances. But it's not like I vote for ONLY ME. So it doesn't reduce the other people's chances, and it balances. It's completely fair.

so then what method would you suggest? Democracy seems to be working quite well in this day and age. [rank] Actually a 'True Democracy' where everyone votes on every issue would be horrible, using a representative based democracy and having the constitution and bill of rights to regulate the voting is what has made it work for America. [/Rant] *Hunkers down for the possible flame war that might start* Anyways, it depends on the circumstances of whether or not I vote for myself. If there is multiple votes like in SOTW I will usually check the current votes. If there is no way possible for me to win, and I am currently tied or losing to a song that I think is worst then mine then I will usually give one vote for myself, (Call me a egoist, but I think my songs deserve more attention), and spend my other votes on who I think should win. If I actually have a chance of winning or there is only one vote them i tried to be as fair as possible and vote for which I actually think deserves to win (Which in some cases may be myself). Edit: Why didn't I think about it before. If everyone in a contest votes for them self, then it will as if no one as voted at all and it will be left to the people who are not in the contest to vote!

True, but the pool of people per week who would have not released a song and who remember/are willing to vote would be fairly small, and so results may not have enough votes to accurately/fairly determine the winners. Not only does allowing those who had made songs that week to vote expand the pool of voters by at least around 10 people, but I think those who had made songs that week would like to have the ability to vote for songs anyway
