Ok, so here's the question. Are there any 2 or 3 sounds that you like in particular that, when combines, they make a nice sound for melody or harmony? Like the Mario Head and Star, or Fire Flower and Car, or any combo. Write what you think.

(What the hey? When ever i write "T" and "H" it becomes z.)

I'm working on a song from Mother 3 called "Back Beat Battle" that uses a flower, Mario Head, and GameBoy combination. It sounds awesome (with the original soundfont).
Flower/car is another good combo; it's about the closest you can get to a held trumpet note.

Mario paint plus, swan with car. Less than. Three!
original soundset? plane with cars and hearts.
Real soundset, cars with flowers and gameboys.
Orchstra: swan with cars or planes.

Here's another few. Gameboy/plane: Not as piercing as a gameboy, but still louder than the plane. Mario/flower: sounds nice.

I forgot to mention an interesting combination that proved especially useful in my Half Life Credits... Plane/Shy Guy. It makes... hmmm... it sounds almost like a voice.

For the default soundset, I always liked the plane/car and flower/car combinations, as well as Game Boy/star and plane/heart. My newest favorite is the heart/pig combo in Extended Orchestra 1.08.

Normally when working with the original, I like using plane/heart and car/flower.
However, another one I found out I liked after hearing LoloGuru's Dire, Dire Docks is the Heart/Coin combo.

Anyone got a good way to make the default strings sound more powerful? Without distorting the sound itself too much? And without soundfont modification? It's for the Forsaken Fortress, which will be going into my medley for Cat's contest.

erm... you could add another present layer? or make the rest of the sounds quieter?

I would, but then I wouldn't be allowed to enter it... With the default soundfont, I suppose I'm limited for options...

It is simply The default soundset with an extra present layer added on so that it is louder. you can do it. Unless "they" say you cannot use mario paint plus

Tehn use dickspeed to make everything else quieter. Unless tempo is also restricted...

An interesting one I discovered recently was higher octave flower and lower octave gameboy. I used it my original composition and it worked really well.

For me, I have been using the Orchestra soundfont as of late, and I just want to put some of my favorites: Gameboy- my utility instrument: +Swan/Cat: Both enhance the tone of the Gameboy in nearly the same way, but the swan is a more subtle. +Mario: used it to make a nice organ in Battle on the Big Bridge
Swan: +Cat: gives it 'fuller' chords if you know what I mean +Car: idk my bff jill
Flower- normally I like to keep this unadulterated but...: +Swan/Cat: see Gameboy's combo +Gameboy: I really only like this in the lower ranges when it sounds like a cool electric guitar +Car: only to give a more piercing effect
Pig and Heart: stronger bass; a staple of my later works
Note: yeah I probably have another one some where

Face + Yoshi in Orchestra
Seems strange at first, but with held out bass, can really create an octave and reverb effect.
