I can't disagree with anything anyone has said, so I'll give my opinion.
I didn't get into Pokemon until I was in third grade (1999-2000), so the Sunshine of Good Fortune of R/B/Y had already past and the was heading towards Gold and Silver. Pokemon silver was the first Pokemon/RPG gmae that I had ever played, and I fell in love with it. Nothing is better when you're 9-ish being in control of other things, especially living things. My Silver addiction came to a short stop when I reached the Ice Cave (stupid sliding puzzle
), but thankfully, everyone in my grade also had a Pokemon game and brought it to school, where we played it before, after, and sometimes during class, so I got some help and continued. (FYI, GameBoys were banned that same year in the spring. Mission acomplished)
With the coming of Ruby and Sapphire, I had become an addict. I had acquried Blue (IDK how) Yellow (friend's spare), and Crystal (birthday), I watched the anime series, and had a few cards, and I was hoping for Ruby on the following birthday. Luckily I got it, and enjoyed spending a lot of my summer vacation playing it. By the end of Ruby my Pokemon addictioon had fallen, only fueled again by getting FireRed, Sapphire and acquiring Gold, along with Emerald later that following year.
Mow with Diamond/Pearl coming, I wasn't as addicted as before. Teh anime series (IMO) had taken a jump off a cliff, so I stopped watching. I have no idea where any of my old Pokemon card went (There was no Charizard, so it didn't matter and no, cat, you can't have them if I find them
I had a job, so I could pay for the games when they came out, so I preordered Diamond, since a Diamond is
more manly than a Pearl (
) and Dialga looked sweet.
Now it is today. Most (if not all) my old Pokemon games have been invaded my relatives (including Silver, which, at last count, was at >600 hours on it w/ 247 Pokemon before it was erased
) Diamond sits securly next to my Pearl, DS lite, and newly acquired Platinum. I'm not that hardcore of a Pokemon fan anymore (curse you Xbox!), but I still love playing the games, watching the occasional anime episode, and showing off my nifty Celebi to anyone that walks by in the Wi-Fi Plaza (yeah, I got one. No lie. ;D)
Anyway, here are my ratings and explanations (IMO):
R/B/Y: 87%Sure, it seems low, but then again, I never got to really experience the full fun of the games. By the time I owned them, I had clocked in at least 50 hours on Silver, and it felt like a step back. Don't get me wrong, I liked them (especially Yellow), but 100 less little critters to get, limited items, and not much to do after beating the game kind of gave me that, "That was it?" sensation. (But the Missing-no glitch was fun, along with the Mew glitch, which I do all the time now)
G/S/C: 98%My favorite generation. Color, a new region, wonderful music, exploring Kanto after the Elite Four again, battling yourself (?) in Mt. Silver, gettinf to beat up on Team Rocket again, and, of course, the legendary birds. I can honestly say that Lugia was by far my favorite Pokemon, and was the first Pokemon I got to Lv. 100. (my bro's was Ho-oh). If they made a remake (which they should and will), I would definitely buy it. I mean, if Pokemon was nothing more than a cash cow now, how mush moolah will they get from remakes? A crapload.
R/S/E: 93%It was like Call of Duty: World at War and Spiderman 3: a lot of hype, and was decent, but couldn'nt live up to it's predecessor.
Sure, wonderful graphics, a lot of gameplay, and fun music, but the Pokemon started looking silly (Regis?) or copied previous generations (Butterfree > Beautifly). Contests were something I didn't get into, orreally like for that matter, and the fact that I couldn't catch both Legendaries in the same game anymore (because I used to be a Legend noob) made me
. One plus: catching me a shiny Rayquaza on Sapphire.
D/P/Pt: 90-95%This is a diffucuilt decision. I haven't played much of my Platinum to rate fairly, but with my knowledge on the other two, it's pretty high. Once again, not a great as the last gen, but it had it's good moments, such as the day/night system returning along with the Poketch (reminded me of PokeGear). yet there was also some low points. (Bidoof, a lot of new evolutions: pre and pro(?)) Also, to me, it seemed like my Pokemon were not getting trained enough whenever I played theough (on the two times). I'd need to train for at least three hours until my Pokemon were ready to take on the Elite Four, and then they were underleveled.
Whew, my hands are tired.
Anyway, there's my opinion. One thing I would like to see is either the removal of HMs/a designated HM move slot, or Johto again, and something new that would make me go, "Why haven't they done this yet?!!?"
