Youtube now has widescreen. How does this fit into your plans on it fitting perfectly on the screen? Oh, yeah that may pose as a problem now.

Um, it doesn't matter very much. Isnt MPC about the song?

Well, if you add too many bells and whistles, it wouldn't really be "Mario Paint" anymore.

Then again, MarioSequencer doesn't contain "Paint", but it's very close in its abilities to the original.

One thing that annoys me about MPC is that when you place two or more symbols on the same pitch, you can only distinguish 1 or two of them. One thing that may help editing is switching on and off layers of notes on a column, such as control clicking the symbol from the top would disable the layer, whereas shift clicking would disable all but that layer. Such as when you are using two symbols to create a certain sound and sometimes you can't tell if both symbols are present on a beat. Sure you could play through it as find out where it's wrong or delete everything there to make sure you place it correctly, but hopefully this could make doing that unnecessary.

There are some limitations on mario paint I don't mind being changed, but there are certain ones that shouldn't be altered.
-soundset changing is fine, I'm all for it. -adding new instrument slots I'm against. I'm okay with the 4 additional ones with V2.0, but I think 19 slots is enough. -the low b to high c range, unless you sacrifice another instrument slot for it. (like in plus and orchestra soundsets) -5 notes per beat is enough. There's always dickspeed for that, though I wouldn't mind if this adaptation increased the limit.

I'm sort of torn between wanting these awesome updates, but trying to maintain the challenge that Mario Paint was originally designed as... I think priority should be fixing the bugs, because they are just annoying.

19 instruments? that's such a wierd number. How about 20? Not too much, definitely not too little.
But i agree with the above two comments, all in all.

I think It'll take till next year to have the song playing working properly. I don't have much time to work on it until christmas.
And I'm afraid dickspeed won't be working as well as in MPC. This is due to the playing animation, which should be synchronous with the audio output - this means you must have at least one frame per chord. So the speed you can play a song at is limited by the speed of your PC. But as the feature isn't completed yet, I can't give you definite numbers about that.

You mean... Because of the bouncing Mario...?
Oh well, I have a fairly fast computer.

Not only because of the mario, but also because of the smooth scrolling (instead of going from left to right and loading the next 10 chords after that, like the MPC does).
And I won't drop this feature, because it's one of the main reasons why I'm developing my application. As I'm not a dickspeed user, I rather want a smooth than a fast animation.

I know you've heard this a lot about things like this many times lately, but, why not make it interchangeable?

You want to have both methods of animation? Well, as the animation is the toughest part to develop, it would nearly double the time you'll have to wait until I've finished, and I also don't want to sacrifice my whole holidays for it...

You need a helping hand. Seriously. You can't bundle this all by yourself, well technically you can but there would be lots of hard labor involved... But that's besides the point. I'm sure fellow MPCers would love to lend you a hand. For example, I'm a skilled animator and could assist you in that field.

What language are you programming this in?

I'm programming in REALbasic. You probably don't know it - it's a language that was originally designed as replacement for visual basic on MacOS. Now it is a proprietary language with a nice IDE that compiles applications for windows, macosx and linux, which is quite practical for GUI appications, as native GUI programming for the three operating systems would need a lot more time. @blueheat: Thanks for the offer, but I don't see where I can transfer a part of the work to be done to somebody else at the current state of my application. I'm about halfway through the animation, in other words, it does something not very pretty, but without crashing . And by the way, this is also a subject of my software engineering studies, as I didn't have such a big project yet, so don't worry about the effort I put in this, I'm glad to do it.
