I can see a lot has been discussed about this subject (though I have not taken part on this discussion yet) and apparently it has been decided that any kind of soundfonts will be allowed on OC contests from now on.
Well, I can't say I agree with this radical decision, but I also think that sticking only to the original is not the way.
Yesterday I had an idea that might solve some problems: what if the OC contest was split into two different contests, the "Original Soundfont OC Contest" and the "Free Soundfont OC Contest"? People who use only the original soundfont would be pleased, and who likes to use other soundfonts would be too, and I believe that, nowadays, there are enough composers to make OCs for both contests.
I don't know if anyone already had this idea, so I'm posting it anyway. Please give your opinion on the advantages and disadvantages this might have.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the problem with it is in a competition sense. There's a bias against soundfonts now-a-days anyway so using a custom might actually put you at a bit of a disadvantage.

I don´t think there´s a problem allowing SFs, the quality of the composition is what really matters, but IMO only the popular ("official") soundfonts that everyone is familiar with should be allowed, creating a new SF only for a specific song (Friedfischer´s style) is kinda unfair in these kind of contests, anyone familiar with creating SFs and with enough time could create a SF with loops, samples, vocals and stuff.

As a user who has uploaded both custom, popular, and original SoundFont OCs into contests and has probably created the most OCs within the community, I have absolutely nothing against allowing custom SFs in the contest and would probably support it. Most people are far too biast to OSF anyways, and with OCs it's not like you can get the perfect instrument put in to be 'accurate' since there's no such thing as 'accurate' in OCs anyways. Notice how M7's contest got the best turn out in OC Contest history, as he (reluctantly) allowed custom SoundFonts. Quite a lot of the entries were customs and I don't think you can say that they had an advantage, it's their choice and really it's about the quality of the composition. With a bit of though, a non dickspeed OSF OC could easily top a soundfont based, 5,000 tempo one. Take Adolfo's '=)' for an example. Very creative, very low tempo and could have easily placed high in a contest if it was allowed.
Stop the biasm to Custom SoundFonts, people! ;-;

Wow, MPC seems so political nowadays. I feel like I've been out of the loop.
