I like to think that a lot of bands out there today are sort of a "next generation" or "reincarnation" of an older band. Let's see...

Coldplay = Oasis



The Killers = The Cure? I dunno, they're part of the "post-punk revival"

O.A.R. = U2



etc.
I'm not saying they're identical, just that there's a lot of influence in the sound and style. Gimme some other examples.
