I am somewhat curious about Dante's Inferno for PS3, 360 and PSP. I just recently bought the entire Divine Comedy and loved it, but I also think the game looks awesome. Now here is my problem. While I do think the game looks great, if I buy it, it might ruin the book for me. Plus the gameplay footage looks very similar to God of War at many points of the game so there is another problem of it might being a clone of God of War.
Are any of you guys getting this game? Or if you HAVE played it, but aren't getting it, would you recommend it?

I haven't read any of the books or any of the info about the game or in fact know anything than the commercials, but I would say, this is just speculation, that Dante's Inferno looks cheesy and cliche and common as anything. As you said, it looks to be no more than a God of War clone except you don't have Zeus. Quick time events in boss battles? Chain-blad--I mean Death Scythe? C-C-C-Combos? Red, brown, grey? This is a simple mutton basher and, from what I hear, is not as good as God of War, which btw, the third one comes out in a month.
Yea, yeah, there are some puzzles in it, but it's honestly nbd. Also, fixed camera.

My roommate got it and I have been watching him play most of it. I never read the book, but he had and is just loving the game so far, finding it awesome in how they make the different facets of the book come to life. In my own opinion, the game is pretty darn cool. I've never played God of War, but from what I've seen of it it seems like there are similarities. However, I'm the kind of person that would not playing any sort of God of War clone, as all that kind of stuff is awesome to me The graphics are very good, the fighting is cool, and locations really have such an atmosphere, the bosses are pretty epic, etc. Of course, I don't own a XBOX 360 or have played many 360 games myself, but I quite like this game (even though there are incredibly disturbing parts... X-P )

I've been playing through this game. While it is a bit short, it tends to stay with the book (somewhat), but because it's a video game it has to make it interesting. Not all that much happens in the book despite sightseeing, the game makes you part of an epic struggle, and the reasoning behind your travels is a bit different.
Saying it's a god of war clone is a shitty excuse for not getting it. God of war is a great game, what's so wrong with having something just like it tell a different story? Similar gameplay is not an issue, we've all been eating the same shit from first person shooters and EVERY final fantasy game. One more clone wouldn't hurt. And Dante's Inferno plays the exact same, but the actual game feels much different.
The graphics are very good, the game does provide a disturbing vision of hell (like a demon with tongues coming out of her nipples). If you're squeamish, don't get it.
The bottom line is that this game is just as fun as god of war, and similarities to it should not count it out, as anyone can draw similarities in a game.
The only gripes i have are the fixed camera (a dodge move takes up the remaining control stick). It cooperates mostly, but sometimes can be odd. Oh, and it's really short. It's like a 6-7 hour game, depending on how you go through it.

I never said I disliked God of War. I have played the games (albeit not all the way through) and they are excellent in their own right (I absolutely LOVE Greek mythology). It's just that I don't OWN any God of War games, so the problem that I meant to say was whether or not it would be too difficult for me. God of War was HARD! If you're squeamish, don't get it. Disturbing images don't bother me none. Hell, I thrive on stuff like this!

^How about having to kill babies? I don't own the game, but I've been following it and some people were pretty offended by the stuff in it. Also I heard that the amount of nudity in it is just ridiculous... If the thing that you're fighting is female, they're probably naked.
In terms of actual gameplay, the game is most fun on easy apparently because the fight sequences tend to go on for a while. People just die faster that way. Other than that it's just a huge god of war clone (not that there's anything wrong with that). Some people were complaining about how you had to mash a button for a few seconds just to open a door, but other than that the gameplay's good. The graphics are also pretty good.
I don't think it will ruin much of the story for you because they change everything to fit the fighting into it and whatnot, but I have neither played the game nor have I read the book so I can't say much there. I don't think I'll be buying it just because I don't really like God of War in the first place. I'd say that if you have a PS3 you should just wait for gow3, otherwise if it's appealing to you then go for it.

^How about having to kill babies? I had to kill them in Splatterhouse, and I'm looking forward to doing it again. Kinda... Somewhat... Not really... Okay, ya got me on that one...

lol it's fine if you like dead babies. I love me some dead baby jokes. I was just saying you might find it offensive...
In fact I think I've got an idea for a new thread.

What I meant about the baby killing was...
Offensive? No. Horribly disturbing? Like the scenes in Splatterhouse, you bet your ASS it is!
EDIT: I decided to get the PSP version of the game. It's basically the same game only portable and with slightly worse graphics. (I can deal with worse graphics due to the N64 being my favorite console) Plus it's like $25 less than the console versions. Considering the fact that I don't have EITHER a PS3 or 360, the PSP version will have to do. I hope that it's worth it, ESPECIALLY now that I found out that the DLC is a [glow=red,2,300]Mission Maker mode[/glow] (HELL YEAH!) and a [shadow=blue,left,300]Co-Op Mode[/shadow] (Meh...)
