I'd like to see your personal opinions. For me, I feel like you shouldn't break 1,000 unless absolutely necessary.

I got started with high tempo out of necessity. I really, really liked the control it gave me over tiny details, so it stuck for me.
While it may not be a necessity, I feel it helps make the rendition more accurate because you can nitpick the small details: attack, sustain, release, dynamics, etc.

I've never gone over 1000. Mainly due to me never needing it because when triplets come along, I sneak past them. Unless a song is measured weirdly like 6/4.

Only breaking 500 for songs with 16th notes. Any faster, or any more notes, and I ain't gonna touch it.

At times it's necessary to have a high tempo; my highest so far was 2100 because I needed both 16th notes and triplets at the same time. High tempo is a gift to those who are able to use it, but if you're new and unexperienced, it may be a better idea not to try it.

I often use tempos over 1000/2000 as I mainly compose songs which have looooots of different instruments. Apart from that... Actually, the same like theEvilGrimace said.

The main reason I dislike breaking the high tempos is that it's disorienting for the viewer. I like to give the viewer a chance to see what's going on in addition to hearing it.

I've recorded many songs above 1000 tempo; I like making songs in the 970-1200 range (mostly due to having more control with volume/cutoffs). I've only made a few above 1500, and only one above 2000 (to have ten instruments). I don't have anything against tempos this high, but they're a real pain to record. >_<

I only make tempos over 2000 or so if I absolutely NEED to, like in my Galactic Admin Battle video. I think it's kind of superfluous to make tempos unnecessarily high.

I really don't care about the tempo value as long as it doesn't crash my computer... Though I don't really do too much stuff over 2000.
I usually set the tempo to the value at which the song will sound good. I don't think the high tempos should be used just to show off. though.

I've only ever gone over 1,000 once. Normally, my tempos are between 500 and 800 (I'm big on Pokémon battle music, most of which have tempos between 180-200, and I multiply the tempos by 4 to give myself more control, like many of you do).
I had to go over 1,000 for the Pokémon RBY Trainer Battle Victory music, because it was in triplets, so I multiplied the tempo by 6.
I agree that it can be disorienting trying to watch such high tempos on videos, but the point of the song is to listen to it, in my opinion, and the only reasons we even show the mario paint screen in our videos is because:
A) Everyone else does, so we figure we should too
B) So people will believe that we made it on mario paint
So I think you should go to whatever tempo you need to go to for the given song. I have nothing against high tempos.

I break 2000 almost 100% of the time now. I started under 1000 with B4U and Frozen Ray, rose to almost 2000 with Buoy Base and Faron Woods, and now S.S. Anubis, Melee Opening, Doopliss, and Dark Matter are all hitting 2080 to 2688.
It's stuck on me now. I'm too used to going dickspeed. You'll rarely see a slow-tempo'd song from me.

I used to never go over 1000. Only occasionally did I ever go over 1000 in my earlier works. Now, I seem to be breaking 1000 all over the place, but mainly only for certain segments of songs. I tend to stay low-tempo, but now I'll use dickspeed when necessary.

I normally try to stay around the 800-1200-ish range but recently I've found myself having to leave out some notes and instruments out of a song because of the limitations.
