Just discuss and perhaps open others up to the joy of music that your favorite genre holds. It can be anything, even some specific one that many people don't know...
But I'm sure that everyone here is a fan of Soundtrack and VGM.

Oh gawd, I love them all so much. I think I can decide it by how indiscriminately I can enjoy it; no matter what artist or composer or band or most importantly song is playing. With that said, my favorite genre is Jazz. Straight up Jazz. I default to Jazz. My first preset in my car would be Jazz. Nothing on? Jazz. Something to clear your head? Jazz. Background music to emphasize your thoughts and conversation? Jazz. I like Jazz. If I turn on the radio station and I hear Jazz, I will be set for the next 4 hours. No such thing as bad Jazz to me.

Rock music, definitely. All kinds of rock music, from Coldplay to Bon Jovi to Metallica. I'll listen to both classic and modern, because IMO there IS some good modern stuff, although it for the most part it doesn't beat the classics (Classics being anything before '95-'96). I also like jazz/funk/disco, although I don't listen to it nearly often enough. And of course. VGMs  . |

Thank you for mentioning jazz, kace. I was gonna say jazz and was thinking I'd be the only one who likes it lol Jazz is amazing to me. People can do such amazing things with their instruments/voice. I feel such a rush of emotions when listening to it, and it's just addicting. It was an absolute blast being in jazz band in high school  |

I am pretty good with most genres... I like Jazz, though I don't hear much of it. I'm good with most forms of rock. I love classical, soundtrack (VGM), and J-Pop, (top 3 - no order) though... Which can be different, since that's the majority of my music library, either songs with no words in them, or songs with words I just can't understand...
The only genres that I dislike would be the super hardcore stuff... like screamo, etc... and I'm not too big a fan of hip-hop or rap either, though there are some good ones.

Rock/Alternative would probably be my favorite, followed by Soundtrack/Instrumental (VGM, Anime, Movie, etc), and third would probably be Ambient/New Age (You know, stuff like Enya). I pretty much can find a song I like in any category though. XD

I dislike hard rock with a passion.
Otherwise, I can tolerate it... mostly. Meaning that I still don't really like rock in general (sorry, those of you who like rock) There are those genres that toe the line though, like Pop, etc. which I like certain songs of, but not the genre.

Techno, including related genres such as house, drum & bass, trance, etc.
Edit: I think it's also worth mentioning that I don't hate rap like most people do for some reason. Yes, there are plenty of rap songs that give rap a bad reputation, but a lot of the stuff isn't half-bad at all.
One thing's for certain; a ****load of people who say they hate rap haven't heard much beyond the bass of someone else's loud car speakers.

I really tend to hate mainstream pop. Stuff like Cherly Cole, Alexandra Burke etc etc its just boring passionless and dull. But some pop, mainly techo-pop, like Hot Chip and La Roux i quite like.
Suprisingly, for someone of my age, i listen to quite alot of older music (70s-90s ish). I love stuff like Michael Jackson, Queen, Rolling Stones and the Beach boys.
The music i listen to is always (well, in almost all cases) catchy and exciting. Sad and slow songs, unsuprisingly, are sad and slow. And, unless theres something interesting about that sad and slow song, i just won't like it, because it wont entertain me.
So, yeah, to sum it up. My fave genres are Rock and Pop.
But it has to be just right. If i dont like it i really dont like it.

Hmm...
For modern music: I would say Alternative, Rock, Punk, etc. Usually just what's on my local radio stations.
For older music: Classic Rock, New Wave, etc.
Also, like Younegai said, Soundtrack and VGM.
Music I HATE: Rap, and Country.

Rock, especially Alternative and Progressive Rock, heavily. Also a lot of Metal and a lot of Spanish Rock, Punk Rock somewhat, Electronic and Techno somewhat, Classical and Jazz a little bit each. I hate the majority of all rap and country songs, and I tend to dislike pop as well. I'm not as much of a fan of videogame music as I used to be. I also have several songs from movie or TV soundtracks, including just about anything you'd want to hear from Animaniacs.  |
