I know Cat already has one, but I was thinking of making one myself. It's obviously not going to have any synths or guitars in it. I'll probably do this over the next couple of weeks, and pace myself.
*Bolded instruments are ones i have samples for. Intsruments (Not in order): 1. Trumpet 2. French Horn 3. Clarinet 4. Flute 5. Timpani 6. Percs (Ride, Crash, BD, Snare, etc.) 7. Tuba 8. Trombone/Baritone 9. Alto Sax 10. Piano extension 11. Violin 12. Cello 13. String Ensemble 14. Viola 15. Bassoon 16. Harp 17. Oboe 18. Piano 19. Choir
Suggestions? Things that should go on there? Things that shouldn't?

Add a piano, other than that, I'm looking forward to that violin!

I'd say Piano and Choir.
Can't wait for this soundset! ^^

Alright, I'm adding those to the list, but I know i'm missing some important instrument... and it's not a sax (i decided to omit the bari sax).
EDIT: What range for the piano?

I see there's a tuba, but any chance of a bass?

Things that shouldn't? (And yes I can do choir...) String and choir ensembles should have at least 2 spaces each for 3 octave ranges, meaning you have low strings (Bass/Cello), mid/high strings, low choir (Bass/Alto) mid/high (alto/soprano) Saxophone is good, but for a symphony orchestra there's nothing that really comes to mind other than Dark Matter's castle, which was already done by Balloon with the Real soundfont, so I'd take that out. Probably have a horn ensemble where you can have as mentioned above to create a low to high octave horn group. 6 spaces, leaving 12 to go for percussions, solo horns/winds, harps, piano (may do the same here, piano could have a good octave range).

Yeah, I guess I'll save Sax for a Jazz SF. But I put it on there because it's useful, maybe not for VG songs, but real music arrangements.

Yeah, I'd say keep the Sax (its pretty usefull). Also I think the piano should be mid-range (Like middle C) and you should add a bass instrument like a acoustic bass or you could have a low octave piano for the bass.
Oh yeah and, watch out because, in mario paint, the coins and the boo's dont stop the note before them so the low A glitch dosn't work, and if your using long samples on those instruments, it will sound sort of "messy".

That's why I'm putting Piano and harp on the coins and boos.
EDIT: Just so we're clear, this is for ORCHESTRATED MUSIC. Not for stuff like boss music that uses bass and guitars and stuff. I don't think I've seen a bass used in a symphonic orchestra, save for an upright bass in a few songs.
And it will probably take a while to find a choir. I haven't tried Chorium's but I know that I'm pretty picky with choirs.
EDIT 2: Should it be a Solo Trumpet or Trumpet Ensemble? I could ask this for most of the instruments...
EDIT 3: Progress = Minimal, but I have some samples. I'm also doing some research that I will use in this SF.

Sorry for the double post, but I have a question: Should it be string ensemble or Violin Ensemble? Yes there is a difference for those that are wondering.
+:Tenor Sax taken out for piano or choir extension.

Alright. I think Violin Enselmble sounds more realistic, but hey, whatever.
Now... How about a percussion list?
Bass Drum Snare Drum Triangle Toms? Crash Cymbal Splash Cymbal (useful for Cymbal Rolls) Ride & Hat? Rim Shots
If only there were room on the instrument list for Tublar Bells ;_;

Some sort of guitar. Preferrably electric.

Hmmm... I wonder whenever you see that in a symphonic orchestra.
I WILL NOT USE GUITARS! This is the third time I've had to say this. I know you guys want me to, but I won't. Unless by some miracle I have extra space.

Just for the record, I was referring to a standing bass, which they use all the time in a symphonic orchestra (there's about 6 in ours ) I like the horn ensemble idea, that's kinda what i was going for in my last piece. And as long as the flute is sustained somewhat with little vibrato, i can't wait for this soundset!

Oh, they'll be sustained.... 4 measures at 140 tempo... And yes, I'll accept an upright bass... If i have the space. Mostly I see it in Jazz, you know?
EDIT: I need splash and crash cymbal samples!
