Hi folks,
I think it is a pretty stupid concept to control access to some boards via passwords. Doesn't this forum have some group policy so that you can add users to certain groups who have or have not access to restricted areas? Any decent forum software supports this, but as proboards uses its own proprietary software, I don't know about its features.
As programmer, I'd recommend switching to another forum software if this one can only manage access to restricted boards via passwords...

You bring up a good point. Personally, you'd have to contact Tiger about that, because he has all of the admin powers.

I think that Tiger went with proboards because it's a free hosting community. Most other forums require a monthly fee to pay for any bandwidth traffic.

I'm pretty sure we could make a new group for when you reach 25 posts so you can access extra boards. There's a board that only the staff can see so why couldn't we make a board that only people with 25+ posts see?

It shouldn't be hard to moderate the polls from now on in SOTW. I personally don't agree with it being password protected. :/

I think it should stay. :/ It prevents people from gathering random people to vote for them just for the sake of winning. Say, for example (Keep in mind I would never do this. XD), I have a popular friend on dA, and I really wanted to win SotW, M, or Y. Without the posting limit, I could easily ask my friend to put something in her journal telling people to vote for me in the competition, and get a rush of votes. While people can still do this, if all the people that sign up get 25+ posts, it's really not likely that a person will spend all that time just to make one vote.

Not unless there was a rule about having to say exactly who you voted for to get counted...

I've gotta admit, there's a bit of cleaning up that could go around on this board. A couple of easy things to fix up would be the following: Make a board titled "Mario Paint Challenges". Make three sub-boards in this board for each of the challenges we have here; Rate the Composer, Song of the Week, and Weekly Composer Challenge. Move all of the topics from the original boards to the new sub-boards. Delete the old boards. Disable posting in "Mario Paint Challenges" so you'll get something that kinda looks like this. Hide the "Holding Pen". With this, the only way to access the board would be through the url, which most of us wouldn't bother guessing. You can post the link to it some mod board I saw around here. >_> Fix the board description of MPC Song Codes...please? The PM's a bit old now, isn't it? Also, make the AMS board a sub-board of Mario Paint Downloads. I'd figure that would make sense, huh? Last, have some more skins. The only one I'm fond of using is Cat's Paradise. I'd be happy to make skins for this forum, if you'd like. I believe users on Poke's forum seemed to appreciate what I left them. Agh, but this is just me going on a picky rant, and I've got no say in how things should be run around here. The board is/has been functioning well and it's serving it's purpose, so great job, Tiger + staff. Edit: How off-topic. The board passwords don't bother me in the least. If it's what it takes, then so be it.

My main concern with it is that a) although it prevents cheating, it's more closely monitored and b) it reduces traffic to that board since you can't see the topics. And I agree with Balloon on everything (except for the AMS board, I think that should stay as its own domain)

Though I agree that Invisionfree would be muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better. ACP is over 9000 times better

And I agree with Balloon on everything (except for the AMS board, I think that should stay as its own domain) Meh, I'd be fine either way. XD It's just that while it'd reduce traffic to the board, it wouldn't really reduce it all that much, because most of the main active members here are over 25 posts, and the ones that come just to vote won't be active in posting anyway. Then again, it prevents the less active, but still trustworthy people, like SnowDog, Axel, etc. to get to the board. :/ I don't know anymore. Just make sure that if you go back to the non-password way, that it stays within the forum, and doesn't involve things like getting friends, or family to vote for you, or using popularity on another website to your advantage. And I agree with you about agreeing with what Balloon said.
