Version 2.0 of the awesome Mario Paint Composer is now available for download from www.mariopaintcomposer.net. It's got a couple new features, like several new sounds, arrangements (No more editing song parts together!), and simple importing of new songs. Here's the official unFun Games post made on Bohemian Rhapsody:

I retract my previous statement.
It looks like it really is the real deal!
BUT...
...Seriously... we've deviated enough from the MP roots with custom SFs. I don't think I'll use it for much other than testing transitions...

TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TRY WITH THEIR CUSTOM SFs
You can install custom soundsets the same way as the old ones. Just rename the file soundset3 and make sure to NOT PRESS THE NEW INSTRUMENT BUTTONS!!!

cool, now my pieces can have 19 instruments. My woodwind Symophony may yet be a full symphony! I just wish you could stack more parts (you know, like 8)

-High C# glitch is still there -Low Bb glitch is still there -Low A rest glitch doesn't work for Boo and Coin instruments -Tempo slider (+ button) allows you to go above 500 -Tempo gaps remain (I only tested 2308 and 2728..) -Lowest volume is 100% silent. -Playback marks all beats recently played (indicated as purple volume scrollers) Once you edit the volume, remove or add any notes, or mess with the volume, that beat is unmarked. Rewind clears all. Placing new notes seems to unmark the entire thing. -Ab ship glitch is still there... (default soundset) -NO MORE ANNOYING WEBSITE ON CLOSE! -Soundsets must be named "soundset3" to work correctly. -Text files function exactly the same. -If you're using an alternative soundset without the four new instruments, they will just make no sound. Nothing else - use them at the end of your file to make sure every thing is held out fully.
I put Spark Mandrill into the arrangement thing, and I must say that I'm impressed. 100% perfect transitions with no work! I'm planning on re-recording a few of my more popular songs with no transitions so that I can upload them as mp3s for the people who wanted them.

The arrangement thing and no annoying website are a plus, but that's about it. The new instruments aren't that useful and I know some people will feel that the instruments are straying too far from the original.

the maker of the program said that the new instruments were mainly put in so people could do the final fantasy music they've been wanting to do

I don't care what anyone says - This is definitely a welcome improvement. Yes, the old "custom" soundfonts will probably require retooling to include the new instruments (or whatever they are replaced with) But seriously, these are some great improvements to the program. It's still not perfect by any means. 4 new icons and sounds means that any custom soundfont can use additional sounds. Take, for example, Levus's two-part-at-once Pokemon Snap piece. Now, he could use the whole of one soundfont and edit four sounds from another soundfont as he chooses. Personally, that's what I hope to see. Soundfonts that keep the original sounds the same but add on on these new buttons. There will be some cool things with this, I know for a fact. Not to mention the arranger and NO POPUP ON CLOSE. It is also nice to do speeds above 500 without editing, maybe people will STOP ASKING THAT QUESTION! I bet I can fix the "low A glitch not working for coins and boos". If I do find a way, I will make a video. To be honest, I haven't been this excited about working with MPC since... I started. A month hiatus can do that, sometimes.

I LOVE the Piranha Plants. The ability to link your song parts together (no editing involved!) is awesome too. I wish the coin, Shy Guy, and Boo were a bit louder, and the coin and Boo didn't sound so similar (maybe make one a steel drum), but hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. This is a great improvement! ;D

Yes, the old "custom" soundfonts will probably require retooling to include the new instruments (or whatever they are replaced with) Already did it ;D well, one soundfont anyway. Check my Orchestra page for the 1.05e update. All sound samples have a 4 2/3rds octave range now, except for the Hearts and percussion. Already did that as well...Well, actually it has to do with some setting that wasn't enabled for the new sounds, but simply copying and pasting the other sounds allowed the old glitch to be used. To be sure I'll figure out exactly what setting that is in the soundfont tonight. Also, anyone notice how crappy the clicking sound sounds now?

I'm gonna have to redesign my SoundFont to account for the four new sounds.

The program works. The songs all don't. What have I done wrong? I've still got all my songs in the Prefs folder but when I open the program all songs are gone. Only 'MySong' and 'lame' are still there. Who can help me?

I'm gonna have to redesign my SoundFont to account for the four new sounds. You should have Alto Piano and Strings on your next one. That would make things awesome. Especially for Piano only songs.

Sonicfan, try extracting the MPC Version 2.0 to a folder. Then, copy the prefs folder to that MPC V2 folder. Choose to YES, overwrite.

I'm not going to put two pianos in it that sound similar. However, I like the idea of the strings. Maybe a saxophone, marimba/xylophone, and sawtooth lead? Share your ideas.
