Well okay sort of, i'm too cheap to spend any money on a REAL program like Sibelius or even Finale. Soo...this is it. it's a great tool for an amateur like me who just needs something to notate music with.
i would love to see MPC gain features of advanced programs instead of having people wanting it to stay true to its primitive, limited self. why not let it evolve!
currently experimenting with transcribing gavin de graw's Not Over You simply because i like the song and i can hear all the parts of it pretty clearly.

Welcome to the forum! I think one of the joys of MPC is that it's quite primitive, but I agree that the addition of more up to date features would be great, which is why I'm looking forward to Rehd releasing his Super Mario Paint programme, which I guess you could call the best of both worlds.

Yay, thanks!
I lurked on a bunch of threads like the FAQ and project threads but to me it seems like 2.0 is the most versatile version out there. I was under the impression Advanced Mario Sequencer was based off the original, and therefore doesn't allow things like sharps and flats or something? I came into the forum hoping to find an improvement on 2.0, really. I guess soundfonts are one perk. Forgive me if i'm wrong but i had a hard time figuring out exactly what each version's capabilities are. if this is off topic i can go ask the same question elsewhere ...

Welcome Taly, hope you enjoy the stuff on here. I'm a dedicated AMS user, and just had to bite at the juicy contemplations you left dangling there, even if this ISN'T the right place. With AMS you get sharps and flats, as well as a 6 note limit per line instead of 5. You can expand one file to as many measures as you need without juggling multiple files into an arrangement. You can change tempo at will with speedmarks. You can swap individual instruments out for each icon from any of the soundfonts you have loaded into the soundfont menu interface. But you can't scroll with the arrow keys; that seems to be a deal breaker for many.

AMS is quite superior in functionality to MPC2.0 in many ways, though it didn't seem to gain as much traction as MPC2.0 did. The arrow keys might have been a reason, but in any case, Super Mario Paint should hopefully allow people to experience MPC2.0, AMS, and a little of my own things in one package. Of course, this would have to be when I actually finish programming it.

one reason why i don't really like AMS so much is because i felt the program is "broken", or rather, the performance of AMSing felt less smoother i guess.
i tried out the speedmarks in low tempo but they hardly work for me, mario keeps jumping back measures and speeds up faster than the speedmark tempo i setted. when i import a mpc file with a tempo of 1300ish it seems to go alot faster. even then, just looking at ams with mario running dickspeed hurts my eyes and i don't like the idea of the screen moving.
i guess there's the shadows of the notes where the notes will be placed depending on where your mouse is, but alot of the times i accidentally somewhat miss the notes i'm trying to place, which is weird.
volume is a problem too. the lowest volume bar is abit too loud, and if i put a mariohead on one bar with the highest green bar, and a mariohead next to it with the lowest green bar, then it sounds like a clear echo. the echo sounds more clearer when the first note is lower. also when you place a note, it plays the volume whatever the bar you place it on is. all the bars are set by half volume in defult, so just picking an instrument is like twice the volume of the note you're placing
plackback is abit of a weird one too. when you press the stop button whilst on like, the middle of the file, the scroll never seems to know where you are and it gets confusing of where you are in the first place because it jumps all over the place, or at least that what it feels like
i actually didn't mind about the arrow keys, because there was a scroll anyways. there's several more reasons why ams is not so "complete" but my point is AMS didn't feel as "complete" as how MPC did, despite that having saving and menu problems. MPC had teeny problems that didn't effect my performance of mpcing at all, so it felt friendlier, and so i'm able to compose in a comfortable environment where i can use the limits of mpc and make stuff the program is capable of doing without any lag
(also ams is not a terrible program, there's some cool features that mpc doesn't have. but i just didn't feel it had a "mpc vibe" to it and it was too small of a step from mpc 2.0)
