It's scary. See, I was happily editing some of my Mario Paint txt files, and then, oh horror of horrors, it goes wrong. "Oh well," said I, "I can fix that later", and I then proceeded to delete the offending part.
And then I found out that I deleted too much of this song. And I thought "Oh well, it didn't take that long, I'll fix it later." And then I played the song. And it played what there was to it (about a quarter of a file) but it didn't stop. And I thought "That's strange, I don't remember putting notes way out there." And so I waited, assuming it was my txt file editing skills that were to blame. And then I saw it.
It flashed across my screen, and then the song ended. And I thought "Oh no, what have I done to the txt file? I didn't place a glitch note anywhere" And then I looked back a bit, and I found... The glitch note. Only, it actually had a physical sprite to represent it. And it scared me, in a not very scary fashion.
Yar. I'm not sure if anyone's had this sighting of the low A glitch note before, but I thought it was quite interesting. So I rushed here to make a story out of it. It looks like a white circle with a thick black outline, and a thick black line lying horizontally across its centre.

NO! WAIT! I've figured out what it is... how it got onto the stave, I don't know...
It is, simply, the (-) button for the tempo slider. Only it's blown up a fair bit, and acts in place of the glitch note.
LOLOLOLOLOL I still find it really interesting though.
EDIT: Through extensive research, I have found that it doesn't actually work in the same way the normal A glitch note does. This one doesn't stop the notes, but it behaves like a glitch note (ie, jumping underneath the stave). Placing a note before it will change the glitch note's pitch and sprite to match the note you placed, deleting that note reverts it to the (-) button sprite. So, what I've discovered is almost useless in terms of aiding composition work, but I think it provides reasonable insight into how MPC was programmed.

Can you get a picture of this? Sounds very intriguing; I've never heard anything like it before (of course I never edit from the text files either, but ... well...)

Yes please, a picture would be nice. And this brings up the point of always being careful when editing txt files...

i398.photobucket.com/albums/pp70/GuruXander/MPCglitch.jpgThat should be it. However, I don't feel that a mere picture can fully convey the... hmmm... reality of this discovery. If you want, I could send you the actual txt file, but it would have to be through email 'cos posting it here changes some of the values.

That happens pretty commonly. It's a sign of a txt error.

Lol well today was the first time it happened to me.

I've never seen that before. A very strange happenstance indeed. I guess it goes to show you need to be careful when editing text files.

I've seen that before! But it wasn't from editing text files. If you try playing songs with the Shy Guy (I believe) in the old MPC, they will appear with that strange glitch (or cause a script error).

If you delete a part of your txt file, this (-) will appear. I've seen that sign very often before.
If you want it to disappear, just put a few : more into the file before the numbers used for the speed. (If it looks like this ::::::%500 , then make it look like this ::::::::::::::::::::%500 or even more.)
