I had an idea to do MPC power rankings, kinda like college sports have polls. Thoughts?

No. We as MPCers have almost NEVER been able to create any sort of ranking system. You don't have any sort of quantitative data to base it on like records or wins over a certain team in college hoops. We only have opinions which are nearly ALWAYS subject to dispute. Polls are not going to work because no one wants to lose or feel bad when they aren't voted for. In addition, it would be slightly slanted due to the popularity/knowness of someone compared to someone else.

Interesting idea, but what Kace said is true. Something sort of like this has been done before (A one time poll asking who the best MPCer was) and that didn't blow over so well.

If it was power rankings based on popularity, it could work.
However, not based on skill.

What we could do if we wanted this to work is make a six-person trusted council and send in their top 10 every week or two, and then tally up the votes and make a combined top 10.

This would stimulate competition, and not of the good kind. Plus there's always the possibility of bias, which would discredit the judges. Lower ranked or unranked MPCers would possibly grow to resent the higher ranked MPCers, while the higher ranked MPCers might get inflated egos, or overwork to try to stay on top. Essentially, this isn't like a sporting competition. This is a pastime. Stats and figures don't matter to us. We're doing this for fun, not fame.

RC, you should probably leave the MPH's competitions systems as is. I understand that rankings are fun, but we shouldn't worry about them too much. This is supposed to be for enjoyment, and even though there already is a song ranking kind of thing going on, that's for the purpose of asking people which song rendition they liked the most, and not which composer they liked the most.

Yeah, I agree with everyone now. Let's just put this to rest.
