I've forgotten that it's annoying to work on things when life catches up to you

Any hour (or even any minute) you manage to put on this project is appreciated and I'm glad that you're still working on it.
Please don't force yourself too much. At this point in time, I feel that enjoying what we do is what we need most.

Could you add extra instruments and bass clef notes like you planned like 4 years ago? Also make an app file?

Holy cow you guys, leave the man alone. He's not being paid or anything to do this, so just that he's doing it on his own free time should be enough to tell you that it'll get done when it gets done. Rehd's doing some amazing work here for no compensation at all, so let him do it at his own pace. If nothing gets done for a while, that can't be helped.
Anyways, you're doing some amazing stuff here Rehd, take your time on it!

This. Posting ideas and suggestions is fine and benefit the project, but please check before doing so that your ideas haven't been mentionned already and be considerate of the fact that Super Mario Paint is developped by only one (amazing) person on his own spare time. I can personally understand the excitement, but please be patient.

I have my life to worry about at the moment, so stuff like this has to wait until that's sorted out.

I hit "Play" and nothing happens. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I'm asking just in case: when you hit "Play", is there any note on the staff? Super Mario Paint won't play if there's "nothing to play".
If that's not it, could you describe the context or circumstances leading to this issue?

When will be working on these things Negative tempos Play songs in reverse Dickspeed mode which tries harder to give you seizures and makes it really hard to actually see the notes Fly swatter Back scratcher A huge red button that when pressed says 'it's a me, mario' Both the Super Mario World and Pokémon Harmony hacks that were never finished Bring chatango back Summon GuruXander6060 from the dead Save mario paint from dying via time travel World peace Release SMP v1.00

I'm going to try to test the program on both Mac and Linux OS before I release the next version so hopefully there are fewer complaints about it "not working," haha.

To clarify the issue I'm having:
Using Windows 7 x64. I place a few bars of notes, hit "Play", and nothing happens.

bwburke94I'm also using Windows 7 64-bit on this computer and Super Mario Paint works fine (as far as I've tested). I tried filling the first measures with random notes and when I hit "Play", it worked. Intriguing... Could the version of Java you're using be at fault? I'm throwing that out there as my sole idea and it may not be relevant. For your information, I'm using version 7 update 55 (build 1.7.0_55-b14). Otherwise, if you have any additional information that may help diagnose the issue, I would suggest sharing it with RehdBlob? RehdBlobI didn't do much with Super Mario Paint v0.91 alpha yet and you likely have enough suggestions already to keep you going, but here's what I have to say. These comments are of minor importance: - When you type a custom tempo, I would've liked the "Enter" key to act like the "OK" button. Doing the latter is fine considering that one doesn't change a file's tempo often, but having a keyboard shortcut is always appreciated.
- Unlike MPC, you can't click and drag (or slide) a volume bar; you can only click at the desired height. It's a feature that I miss, but again, what's currently here is fine and works well.
- Speaking of the volume bars, having a lot more freedom is super neat. Because there's a lot more heights available, I agree that having a number displaying a bar's height would be very useful.
- If I'm not mistaken, the executable doesn't remember the last folder you accessed for loading and saving files. I think it would be nice if it did.
- I LOVE how you can customize the sprites used in the executable and PurpleKirby's Super Kirby Paint is a shining example of that. In the next few days, I'll try to see how far I can go with customization.
