Still in MAJOR WiP. I've decided to make a Mega Man X soundset. One that's actually real *cough*. I'm still a beginner at making soundsets though. Here are the instruments I have ripped from the Mega Man X ROMS so far: ... While Levus did recently start his MMX SoundFont, I've had an idea to make a Pokémon SoundFont since I started Mario Paint Real. While I have almost no work done, I think this could be an interesting work. I'll probably make the first version General MIDI compatible where the instrument numbers line up with the instruments in a GM SoundFont, then later releasing a Mario Paint version. Don't get too excited though, because this might wind up being one of my dropped projects, which I have quite a few of.

I'd actually be looking forward to that (Sorryz for bumping [is this old?] old topic)
But it'd be hard picking sounds, like the attacks "pound, tackle, splash"

No, I don't mean sound effects, I mean the instruments in the music.

I like this idea, and if you were to aim more towards R/S/E's direction, that'd make me like it more.
Just 'cause I looooove R/S/E's french horn. ;D

I kind of hope there's a LoZ/Banjo Kazooie soundfont first.

Just 'cause I looooove R/S/E's french horn. ;D I would have to agree with balloon here (I don't want to say "This." and leave it at that). Firstly, R/S/E's instruments (may be) the hardest instruments in pokemon to replicate in the series. I think so for the following reasons: - RBGY uses 8-bit sounds, which are extremely easy to replicate. As Levus says in TTFAF, if you want to start in mario paint, it is bet to start with something from the 8-bit era. - G/S/C - Pretty much the same story as in RBGY, not much of a change there. - DPP's instruments are more techno oriented. At first, it may seem like they are difficult to replicate, but when you use Adolfo's Electronica, you're good to go. - I believe that R/S/E's sounds are the hardest to replicate because of all of the "weird" instruments that are present. I will list them as best as I can. - The French Horn there is very hard to replicate, especially with the original soundfont. - One of the basses there could be hard to replicate, unless you are already super-satisfied with the bass from Orch 1.08 or Plus. (This list may be added on to in the near future as I listen to more RSE music). RSE's instruments are more ear-appealing than the instruments of other generations of Pokemon. This really shows in the instruments in, for example, Elite Four Battle or Mt. Pyre (I do not believe that the RSE songs could not have been replicated very well with the DPP instruments (Just look at the Platinum Regi Theme)) Conclusion: I agree with balloon in his statement that this soundfont should be more inclined toward R/S/E's instruments because: 1. R/S/E's instruments are the hardest to replicate among the generations of Pokemon. 2. R/S/E's instruments are the most ear-appealing instruments in all of pokemon.

What I would say about RSE in COMPARISON to DPPt is, yes, it's more orchestrated, and DPPt is more, erm, techno. If you look @ stuff from the RSE battles, they are not very easy to fully replicate because of their high attention on brass. Now that's for instrumentation. Basically D/P/Pt's battle themes are, meh, similar to RSE, no problem there. What really gets to people is when they do BGM from 4th gen. Songs like Old Chateau, Eterna Forest/Lost Tower, Mt. Coronet and stuff like that really require echo, octave ranges, weird noises, other strange and lengthy stuff like that. Then...stark mountain...I mean really. This is a monster. So I don't think ALL the instruments could be put in, but I guess...you could somewhat accomodate...the Orchestral Harp from Route 209 is quite similar to Arceus Approaches/Menu Screen (same song ), and Mt. Coronet. Oh well, good luck.

This WILL NOT be a Mario Paint Composer compatible SoundFont at first. I will make a General MIDI version first (if I actually do this) and then maybe think about switching around the instruments for MPC.
Before the first post, I actually had tested with RSE sounds. It's actually very doable, but I would need some time to tune the sounds, and it would not sound exact. A .it module is available if anyone wants a look (RSE Rival Battle).
