I'd love a SMW hack! I could design some levels or something; I'm pretty good at stuff like that (not meaning to brag.) Lunar Magic shouldn't be that hard to use.

I was trying to make some levels in Mario Flash for a series I was going to call "Super Sadistic Mario". Unfortunately I couldn't make the passable levels hard enough, and the hard levels were actually impossible. I'd love something like a SMW flash game, but I don't own the original, so I can't do any hacking. Maybe I could just do level design, or music composition.

Anyway, we should really make a poll because of the many ideas people have brought on the table : SMW ROM Hack, TFinn's Puzzle game, Earthbound ROM Hack, etc.
As for myself, I have zero abilites in programming and such, but I'm pretty good to get ideas and love to design levels (I have a good conception of what good level design is and designed 100+ Donkey Kong Country-like levels on paper).

SMW Romhack. Gogogogogogogo. I could help a lot if you decide to do that, because I know how to use Lunar Magic. A SMW hack would be really cool... I have basic knowledge about Lunar Magic and have made a couple cool levels on it, but I have no sprite/background creating or altering abilities. But I can pretty much use what they standardly provide me with. So I could maybe help with that too if you would like to go in that direction. I made a hack a SMW few years ago. It was weird. But I do still know how to use Lunar Magic.

Come to think of it, It'd be nice if we could make an actual hack game out of Mario Paintasy. *gets right on it*

Well, we have MPXVI..... But I want a platformer as well! GO GO SMW ROM HACK! Yeah. Definitely a platformer! How 'bout... MPXVI the Platformer Edition!!! And your choice of characters are the instruments (or maybe just the mario head)... and you have to fight by the other instruments on the staff to get to the end of the score (level) !!!

I don't know if we can implement a character selection in a SMW ROM Hack though, but the idea isn't bad at all. I would prefer seeing the instruments as level's gimmicks or power-ups though. In general, I agree with the idea to have the game focus on Mario Paint (instruments or whatever), but I don't know exactly how to do it. I would like to have levels similar to the ones in Mario Paintasy XVI (like Tempo Gap or Fire Flower's Jungle) where they are related to Mario Paint's components. Music should probably play in a role in this game (could have something to do with the plot or be implemented with some gimmicks). Exemple: one idea would be an auto-scrolling level where the environnement is a Mario Paint partition with instrument sprites that you must avoid. The tempo would represent the scrolling speed that you can slow down with special blocks. A cool thing would be that the partition represents the song played in this level.

I totally agree that whatever we do should be MPC related somehow. If it is a SMW ROM hack, there would be so many possibilities if someone knew how to alter the sprite/block graphics and functions to things we would want. I could at least help to put together levels with sprites/blocks given to me. SO many unique levels could be created, whether relating to Mario Paintasy XVI or MPC in general. I would totally be for it!

The tempo idea is just an idea for one particular level and will feel quite repetitive if it's the premise of the whole game. Honestly, I first thought that this section would still involve platforming, but I prefer your idea more : it can be used for more potential if you can float and you could shoot those tempo blocks with lasers or whatever. It's requires advanced hacking (ASM I think), but it's possible. As for composing the music, I don't think we will have too much difficulties finding qualified composers around here like you said . ElectricPoptart (sorry, I don't know how to quote twice) : Yay for enthusiam! I think we will try to make the most people involved as possible and any help would be appreciated. I'll think longer about it trying to get ideas for the plot, overworld, levels, gimmicks, etc.
