THIS DOESN'T COUNT ANIME-STYLED MOVIES (Sorry. No Pokemon.) Over the next few years, there is supposed to be a wave of movies based off of video games. Taken from Wiki: ANNOUNCED RELEASE DATES:Tekken (9/7/2009) Prince of Persia (5/28/2010) Metal Gear Solid (2010) Bioshock (Summer 2010) Gears of War (2010) SPECULATED/IN THE WORKS:Halo (canceled?) The Sims (WTH?) Spyro the Dragon (in 3-D ) Mass Effect (gonna be a long movie...) Pac-Man (NOT ANIME...WHAT?) Splinter Cell (in DH) Metroid (Yeah, three years ago) Resistance: Fall of Man (IDK...) Killzone (sucks ) Medievil (Yeah. The PSone game with the skeleton...) God of War (I gotz nothing to say...) WoW (Blizzard totally owned Uwe Boll...) With this great list comes some great games. Yet the past has told us that a great game doesn't mean it'll become a good movie ( Super Mario Bros. FTF). Hollywood has enlisted some of the best directors/producers/writers to help the transformation from controller to the big screen (Peter Jackson( Lord of the Rings), executive producer for Halo; Gore Verbinski( Pirates of the Carribean), director of Bioshock; Len Wisemen( Live Free or Die Hard), director of Gears of War), so the future looks bright. Personally, the only way I can think that there will ever be a good video game movie is if Uwe boll stops. If you don't know him, click here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uwe_Boll. What are your opinions?

Bioshock and Gears would be good only because the games themselves set up a world so amazing and filled with depth (as well as amazing characters) they would have to change a LOT to screw it up. Of course, they will anyway.
As for the rest, meh.

If there was a Starcraft movie, it would be the best. Ever. Except most of the characters are piloting ships and such. It would make for weirdness.

I enjoy video game movie trailers way more than I enjoy video game movies, oddly enough.
Zelda Trailer, PunchOut!! Trailer...yep, great!
Street Fighter recently...could've been better. It was a good movie and all, but it just wasn't for the fans.

The producers honestly don't have a single clue what they're doing when picking video games to adapt into movies.
Mario bros, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, all crap. Everything Uwe Boll touches with his diseased fingers, even more crap. Lame assed attempts (Resident Evil anyone?, Mortal Kombat+Sequel), still crap.
I have a dream where I will write a script for a game to movie, and it will not suck, it will have plot that can match the game's purity, character development that will impress the critics, both gamer and non-gamer alike, and a killer soundtrack by only the most talented of artists. I get the blessings from the game's creators and have their imput on what works, so that people will know that the game's own creator has their two cents on it.
Megaman can become a movie, and they can use a plot based on the first game. An origins movie actually works, since the storyline could impress both gamers and non-gamers.
A metroid movie could be as dark and scary as Alien was, where space pirates are the most feared species in the known universe, and only Samus can bitch slap them in a black hole, with Ridley as the main villain.
Zelda should mirror a bit of Ocarina of Time's storyline as far as Ganon's origins are concerned. Link is a wandering adventurer who stumbles in the wrong place at the wrong time, and is put into a cat-and-mouse chase as Ganon's minions pursue Zelda for the triforce of wisdom, and Link displays his courage, proving to Zelda that he is the chosen one intended to wield the triforce of courage. He then seeks the blade of evil's bane in the Lost woods, only to encouter his darker self and must conquer it to claim the sword. Make it as dark as possible, showcasing a true good v. evil movie that's as legendary as Lord of the Rings was.
But, no one wants to touch these gaming franchises, knowing how Mario and Street fighting games have bombed completely. Survival Horror never succeeded, nor have FPS type games, so to touch the untouchables takes a lot of research, a good script with snappy dialogue, and the blessings from the game's creators. I think those who made the games must be truly ashamed of themselves to see how awful the movie version of it became.

How about some Phoenix Wright? It's like a book with visuals, so it's perfect.

I feel the same about video game to movies as I do live-action anime.
I feel it's possible to do a good job with either, but it's super difficult, which is why you rarely see it.

Phoenix Wright might work as a legal drama where he's solving his toughest case yet, and the cast of characters are giving him a headache trying to get through this all important case. It's doable, but it wouldn't be much different than a John Grisham drama . I love Okami, but I honestly can't see it being done into a movie and do it justice. An anime movie, yes, but not live action. I highly doubt that any of the upcoming movies that are appealing to the Xbox generation will be any good, and it's only because they're picking the most popular current franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually release a GTA movie starring Vin Diesel @_@.

Eh funny story about the Mario Bros movie. Bob Hoskins, the person who played Mario, is my grandmother's cousin. So in a way, I'm related to Mario! But yeah, video game movies are generally bad. I thought that the Doom movie was quite bad (although the part where it goes into first person mode was coooooooooooool). I can't name any good VG Movie that's not Anime.
