These nifty little shout-outs / just-for-fun things always remind me that video companies have a sense of humor. Finding out a cameo or easter egg on your own is always fun. Looking them up somewhere can turn out to be interesting. They can take you away from a serious setting to a mellow, happy-go-lucky feeling. Like in Ocarina of Time, we all know the Mario characters in the window of the Castle Courtyard where you first meet Zelda. Along with the guy who throws a bomb at you if you shoot the opposite window with a slingshot. It ruins the fruity moment just to make you giggle a bit. They're very clever to find, in my opinion. ^_^ My favorite Easter Eggs are mainly from Zelda games. Just look at Link's Awakening (DX). There are Mario references EVERYWHERE in that game. Pictures of Peach, Goomba, Blooper, and Pirahna Plant-like enemies, a "dog" that looks oddly similar to a chain chomp. What else is there? Oh! Pokémon names! Every notice anything about Artic UNO, Zap DOS, and Mol TRES? How about Ekans and Arbok? Hmm? There's surely more, but these two seem to be the most popular. Death by chicken in Ocarina of Time, special taunts in Melee and Brawl, the alternate GameCube start-up noises... Surely there's more!

Oh, video game copyright loopholes, how you always get to me...
I'd say the tons of Earthbound references to real-life pop culture (i.e. the yellow submarine, various chords in songs) are another favorite of mine.

Every notice anything about Artic UNO, Zap DOS, and Mol TRES? Ole! Can't say I ever noticed that. On the Nintendo scale, in Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a Gamecube remake of a previous PSX game, in the office of a big Japanes anime nerd-scientist-guy, there was a Gamecube system, and stuffed toys of Mario and Yoshi that gave you health if you shot them. One of my favorite easter egg filled game series is Grand Theft Auto. One of my favorite easter eggs was an easter egg; if you jumped through a random window off of a helipad, you'd end up in a room with a chocolate egg that said "Happy Easter!" on it. Or the Golden Gate Bridge ripoff in GTA: San Andreas... if you got to the top of the bridge, there was a sign that said "There are no easter eggs here. Go away." Those are just two of many.

Two words: Totaka's Song.
It appears twice in Link's Awakening (in addition to many other games including Mario Paint) -- one theme plays in Richard's House, but the other theme is in the game's coding undiscovered.
Speaking of Link's Awakening, have you ever typed "ZELDA" as your name on the startup screen? Listen to the music that follows.

Well, while on the subject of awesome Zelda easter eggs, we can't forget the "Chris Houlihan" room of Link to the Past!
Back in the early 90s, when Link to the Past was about to release, Nintendo Power held a contest. The grand prize was getting your own room in the next Zelda game! A kid named Chris Houlihan won, and his name was put into the room. However, the room was not programmed correctly, and the only way to get into the room is through a glitch. The glitch requires the player to rush to the room as quickly as possible when starting up the game. Instead of generating Hyrule Castle's sewers, the game drops you into Chris Houlihan's room! Watch the video for details.

The entire Pokémon series is an Easter egg if you consider those to be Easter eggs. Every name is based on an something that already exists. My favorite is a buoyant weasel. Bidoof is a doofus beaver. Vulpix is a vulpine (fox). Doduo is a dual-headed dodo. Espeon is a E.V. (Eevee, evolution) Pokémon that focuses on extra-sensory perception (ESP). Treecko is a tree gecko. Giratina is a platinum opal (girasol). Ho-Oh is a mythological bird (literally the "ho-oh"). Houndoom is a devilish (doom) hound dog. Need I go on?

I've read that topic and I scoffed at every instance of "directly romanized versions of their Japanese names". There is another version, which I think is FAR better, on GameFAQs. The author stated about a week ago he's going to update it soon to accomodate for the fourth generation.

I'll admit that I didn't know "Castform" was a mix of form an forecast switched around
there is a VERY weird easter egg in spore creature creator
on the main screen where it says "load a creature" and "create a creature" click on the center of the galaxy. it will zoom out and you can rotate it around with your mouse. Here's the weird part: if you take the galaxy and fling it, it will spin a million miles an hour and will wright's head will fade in and spin on the center of the galaxy o_0 I found out while I was on my mac, and it was somebody else's face
Here's a video if you're too lazy to do it yourself:

There's so many Easter Eggs in Banjo-Tooie, most of which are in Bottle's house. JFG posters, Donkey Kong stuffed animals, it's crazy!
One of my favorites is in Cloud-Cuckoo Land (Or however you spell it...) when you have to open the safe. The combination to said locker is the year in which Rare was created. The locker then goes to say something along the lines of, "Boy, that's a rare number!" Lulz ensue.

The only one I can remember right now is James McCloud in F-Zero X, and then the G-Zero series ending in StarFox Command.

This cements my desire.

The FF Series has very subtle easter eggs.
Gilgamesh appears in many different FF's after V. He appears in FFVI Adv, FFVIII, FFIX, and FFXII (I may have missed a few)
A FFIX song, "Library Daguerro" (Or something like that) sounds remotely like FFI's town theme.
a boss named "Ultima Weapon" appears in many FF games VI -->
etc, etc, etc.
Super Mario Galaxy:
There's a Pikmin reference in Space Junk Galaxy.
There's a Pokemon reference in Buoy Base Galaxy.
