I honestly wish I didn't sound jealous with this comment or observation, but ever notice how songs made with the SNES mario paint get more views and comments on Youtube than those created through MPC?
Is there like something defective with people?

It 'cuz the internet is full of SNESMP purists who always complain about MPC "being fake". Uh, hello to all of those mindless zombies! If they can't get a grip, they should not, and I repeat, should not be commenting on videos like that.

I doubt any of those commenters were even born yet when Mario Paint was released on the SNES, they're like born in either 1993 or 1995, when Mario Paint came out in '92 .

Well, they have to face the facts; more and more people use MPC rather than SNESMP. If they can't live with it, why are they even on YouTube?

The guy who records videos for me put a couple of my songs (Buoy Base and Doopliss) on GoNintendo, and every other comment is a complaint about how this isn't REALLY Mario Paint. -___-
One intellegent fellow, however, made a brilliant quote.
"Mario Paint, 17 years old and still better than Wii Music."

The SNES Mario Paint doesn't appeal to me for several reasons, most notably the absence of sharps and flats. You'd think that Nintendo would realize that this is a huge, gaping, limiting problem by now, but they didn't. Heck, even in Animal Crossing: City Folk, you still can't use sharps or flats with the town tunes! I also don't like the need to use save states (which I scarcely ever do) for a ROM (which I don't have and which is definitely illegal anyway). It's just so inconvenient, not to mention limited.
In contrast, Mario Paint Composer enables us to get around nearly all of these limitations, especially given recent advancements in echoing, soundfonts, high speed, etc. Take adolfobaez's new Zelda Overworld theme, for example. The most accurate rendition ever made, and all through the new tricks that were developed. Mario Paint Composer is growing and updating, and that's why this community is thriving. Mario Paint... sorry, man, but it's over.
And Mario Paint wasn't even about the music program in the first place. Ironically, that's the main reason why we remember it. What I find both amusing and curious is that Rare's Composer completely recognizes that our generation is, to use his words in banjario's letter, "musically fascinated" yet Nintendo has yet to realize this fact. Kudos to Grant Kirkhope. ^_^

The SNES Mario Paint doesn't appeal to me for several reasons, most notably the absence of sharps and flats. I'm am still one of the few purists that would love to use the original if given a song that is possible to do in it. I personally cannot count modified SoundFonts as Mario Paint anymore (ironic that I made two). Most of what makes it appealing is trying to use the original sounds (as well as the four extras in MPC2.0) to compose a piece. Taking that constraint away takes too much of the challenge away. ("This doesn't have a violin, so I'll add one!") For those who want to know, I will be coming out with another SoundFont soon, but I probably won't use it except to demonstrate it.

^ Heh... your soundfonts are so addictive, y'know that?!?! ;D
Regarding the topic, I do try to restrain myself in terms of soundfont use. There are sooo many unfinished songs that I have all intended for the original soundfont (SPM's Ultimate Show being one of them!)... so I do try to use the original soundfont from time to time. But soundfonts... as soon as I discovered them, I was... kinda hooked...
I think... I think that SNESMP had far too many restrictions for it to be of any use for complex songs (which seem to be more and more commonly recreated these days...). I suppose without MPC, some of the songs people are putting together just wouldn't sound right, and wouldn't technically be possible...
Likewise with soundfonts. Without soundfonts, HECK, some of my projects would be in ruins... Although... If I could, I would use the original soundfont, because I think some people on YouTube DO look for it in a song...

I'm not against Composer, but the SNES Mario Paint is a lot more impressive than Composer. Even though soundfonts, crazy speeds, and bypassing the amount of notes per line is fun to do, I'm half-hoping that we won't get too more advanced then we already are. If we do it's just not going to be as creative as making a song using the original notes (plus 2.0's notes) and 5 notes per line.

I'm a little ashamed for not having a single song with the original soundfont. =/
I did have the Rad Racer theme on the original composer (with the 4 extra), but that was before I was available to YouTube. I ditched that song to the recycle in, since then.

I only recently started using different soundfonts. Heck, I went about 50 videos with the default soundfont!

I did Don't Stop Beleivin' with the original soundfont and it came out perfectly. Soundfonts aren't required to make a song sound good. That doesn't stop me from usuing them, though

Indeed. I'm more of a traditionalist, and while a song sounds closer to the real thing with soundfonts, it takes some of the magic out of it to me.

Also for some reason IMO songs sound better with the default soundfont. That's why I did Beat It with it.

That's why people still get respect for using the original soundfont and stuff. Edited soundfonts are a little hard to follow at times, as you're expecting a certain sound, when, say, a cat is placed, but instead, you hear, say, a heart sound.

It's because of TomBobBlender. Almost everyone here knows what we think of him and his songs, but the general masses that follow him go "OMG HE RESTRICTS TO ALMOST INHUMANE LEVELS RESPEKT@()*!)(%*0928360986"
Exaggerated but you get my point.
