This is the thread for all those who encouter the problem that no sound plays. I'm afraid this is a problem hard to debug, because the problem is bound to be linked with the fluidsynth tool I use for soundfont playback. So I need every available information you can give me. First, I need to know the windows version you are on (with service pack). Be sure you have the newest DirectX version installed. You can test if the fluidsynth tool itself works by doubleclicking on it. It should look like this:

I'm using Windows XP Professional, with Service Pack 2.
AMS doesn't make any sound, and when I try to run fluidsynth.exe, I get this error message: "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I've got the latest version of DirectX and Windows Vista SP1. I tried running fluidsynth.exe and I got "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail."
I've tried running is as administrator. I've tried setting the compatibility mode for Windows XP. Neither worked.

I hoped that fluidsynth would simply work on any windows system if I compile on my system. It seems I was wrong. The best thing to do would be to have all users compile fluidsynth for themselves to have it configured correctly, but I'm afraid that 95% of the folks here won't be able to get it compiled. I have to talk about this issue in the fluidsynth mailing list, perhaps someone there has a solution for this. This will probably take a while, so please be patient. Anyone with enough know-how can of course download the fluidsynth source code - available here - and compile it with visual c++ express edition, replacing the fluidsynth.exe and fluidsynth.dll with the new compiled files afterwards. This should fix any fluidsynth problems.

So I'm not the only one? XD Okay. I'll be sure to try that tomorrow. Either way, it looks fantastic!

Grr, it doesn't work, and I don't know how to compile anything. I'm running Vista, Service Pack 1, latest DirectX, same error levus got. Any suggestions/help?

Well there is no sound for me either. I got the same things as levus and eataninja.
Since I do not know how to compile stuff, I am perfectly content with playing the 'waiting game.' Ready, set, go!

No sound and same error when opening the FluidSynth.exe file. I dont know much about it but isnĀ“t there another app to run .sf2 files besides fluidsynth?

There is no real alternative to fluidsynth. The MPC also uses fluidsynth - or more precisely the fluidXtra plugin for Adobe Director, which is build upon the fluidsynth library. A solution would be perhaps to use the fluidsynth library directly instead of passing the midi commands to the command line tool - the point is, I never used external libraries in RealBasic, so this would probably be a lot of work for me. I will only do this when I'm sure that this will fix the problem.

Copypasta from the other thread: To anyone wanting to compile fluidsynth by themselves, I found this guide to be very helpful. It works perfectly now. This guide is very good indeed. For me, there was one thing to do for compiling not mentioned in the guide: From the DirectX SDK folder (normally C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008)), I had to move the file lib\x86\dsound.lib and the file include\dsound.h to the Microsoft SDKs folder ( C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v.6.0A) into the corresponding bin / Lib folder there. This is of course a bit of an effort, but it's quite straightforward, so most of you could probably do this. Just copy the resulting fluidsynth.exe and fluidsynth.dll to the AMS folder, and you're done. I will, of course, look for a better solution anyway.

Meh, it's too much effort and more rubbish to install on this laptop. I think I'll wait until the more stable version of AMS is released.

I agree with levus. I can wait a month or so. But what I saw of it looks awesome.

Windows XP SP3 Home Edition I don't know my DirectX version. I'll update it first before I say anything else. I'll also try Lihyahm's compiled version.
