God, I hate double posting, but this is the error screen that pops up when I load a song.

Are most problems from AMS going to be fixed when OCS comes out? I have found these bugs so far: 1) More notes will appear when the song is played, yet the extra notes do not. I don't really understand what you're talking about, could you elaborate a bit? 2) I have a glitch where if the song is larger than the beggining bar, it won't save. You're sure you have the Beta 3.2? I made some longer songs on the AMS and never experienced this behaviour. 3) I can't open any songs that I've made in AMS, period. Hard to believe, works perfectly here. could you send me such a file? Plus, I also have these questions: 1) How far from a possible release? I hate to say that, but: Not this year. The current semester is VERY tough and I hardly have any time for the AMS / OCS. 2) Can we still open MPC or AMS songs? As I said, send me your file and I'll try to figure out what went wrong. 3) Can more bars for notes be added? Not in the next release. I try to keep the OCS as simple as possible. 4) Will it retain all the current features of AMS? Of course. 5) Will a 'patch' be available to have the old sounds and sprites again? There's no need of a patch. It will be able to change all the graphics in the OCS just by selecting another folder as "spriteset" where you can place the graphics you want to have in the OCS. I won't *officially* provide the original spriteset as compatible images, savvy? 6) Will it have an audio/video recording function? Recently the fluidsynth library which I use for sound output added support for outputting sound as normal sound files such as wav or ogg. I didn't originally plan to add recording support, but I just might put some work into using this feature. Video recording support is a hard bit of work and won't come with the first final OCS release, but might be implemented in the future. 7) Will you be able to set the volume for multiple notes on the same chord? (Ex: A Mario Head and Goose on one chord, yet different volumes forr them.) I thought about this. Problem is: I don't see a way to do this while retaining the current interface simplicity. An option might be the following: Each note is available as "small", "medium" and "large" size, indicating low, normal and high volume of the note. This is certainly nothing that will come in the first final release, though.

Here, I'll explain the best I can. 1) When I load a MPC song the notes displayed are the correct ones. Yet, when I press play, I see more of the same notes displayed on a different chord. It causes no problems, but is extremely distracting. Example: Normal (Not Playing): Playing: 2-3) I have checked and I am positve I have 3.2. Whatever is happening, it is the same glitch for loading AMS Songs. When ever the scoll bar is extended longer then it starts out as, and you save a song this error appears: It also appears when I load a song that is in AMS format (If you are wondering, I can save a song if it is uses the start length of the scroll bar). Yet, I can open MPC songs, but (again ) I can't save them. A few other things to point out. I have tried this on two computers, and both have the same glitches. Also, they are both Windows XP. Let me know if this helps.

Well, I can't reproduce the error, and nobody else reported it, so I can hardly do anything against it.
But as I basically rewrite the whole thing for the next release, this bug will hopefully be gone in the final.

Well, I opened up one of the ".MSS" files with Note Pad and it said this: " <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<MarioSequencerSong tempo="300" " The song had instruments placed on the treble, but this was all it said. Does this help at all?

Yes, obviously the bug occurs when you save your song. Do you have any custom Soundfont loaded? The song storing algorithm seems to stop when it's supposed to write the soundfont name, so I guess, there must be something wrong with the soundfont management.

Nope, I haven't used a single one. This is the file name of my soundfont, "MarioPaintOriginal.sf2". Here's the error that appears when I save: Again, does this help at all? Anything I should change on my AMS?

The most curious thing about this is, the same application works perfectly here.
I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to track this bug down (it's very hard to find the cause of a bug that doesn't occur in my testing environment), you have to wait until the next release is out.
(One thing: did you try redownloading the AMS? Your version behaves VERY strange, it might just be that it has been damaged while downloading)

Well, I tried redownloading it, but it still works incorrectly. No biggie, though. I'll wait for OCS's first beta. Let's hope it doesn't have the same problems. SCRATCH EVERYTHING I'VE TOLD YOU!!!!! I THINK I FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM!!!!!I was bored and I messed around with AMS, and just as a test, I saved a song in the folder my soundfonts were, and BOOM!!! It saved! So, as another test, I tried to open it , and BLAMOO!!! It opened. So, I guess, I just needed to save the song in the folder with my sounfonts. PRETTY COOL, HUH!? ;D Thanks for all the support you gave me. Awesome program, and I can't wait for OCS to come out!

If you are running Vista or Windows 7, try running AMS as an admin if you would like to load and save from areas that aren't your main AMS directory, maybe.

All right. I came here specifically to post a reply about the application name.
"Mario" can't ever be a copyrighted name. It's a very common one. Common nouns can't be copyrighted either: for instance, if your application is called "Advanced House Gardening", you can't trademark the word "House" and sue anyone that uses it in their application. So if you are renaming your application to "Open Cartoon Sequencer" because of that, don't worry.
I don't know about the sound effects, but I'm not sure Nintendo can hold a copyright to them. Not even to the "Yoshi" effect. But I'd have to research further about it.
So, to summarize, the only thing Nintendo can unquestionably hold a copyright to are the images.

What the heck? Copyrights? Have you seen all the pirated games lately? And you're worried about copyrights for this?
Nintendo can't hold a copyright on any sounds simply because they can be editted and most of them aren't even from Nintendo anyway. They're MIDI.
Pictures, sprites, etc. Those are all over the internet, it's not like Nintendo will care.
Really, even when credit is given/not given to Nintendo, they won't be around to see it...

Hey Ford Prefect, have you heard of the game SuperTux? It's basically Super Mario, but open source, and uses the Linux Penguin "Tux" as the main character. All the art is completely original: supertux.lethargik.org/screenshots.htmlWhy don't you contact the developer and ask if you can use their sprites to give your Open Cartoon Sequencer a "Tux Composer" theme? It seems appropriate since Tux is already known as a "replacement" for Mario in the open source/Linux world. There is even a SuperTuxKart game en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperTuxKartAlso, if you want to redo the game in C++ sometime, if you let me know, I might be able to help.
